Seeking the Blessings of the Lord, with Bill Johnson
“God be merciful to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us, Selah.” (Psalm 67:1)
Focusing on the first part, Bill was encouraged that it’s legal to seek blessings. He thinks one of the most selfish acts in the church is the failure to seek personal blessings.
It’s the more than enough that equips us to serve others effectively.
Bill loves the stories of the supernatural provision where the supply shows up and needs are met.
“God I need you to bless me because they won’t know Your ways. They won’t know what You’re like.”
One of his favorite stories is the missionary family that has no food in the cupboards, drink in the refrigerator, sets the table, bows their heads and gives thanks for the food that doesn’t exist in their house. As soon as they’re through with the prayer there’s a knock at the door (always) and the Lord answers the prayer with food and provision. He expresses how great this story and stories like it are.
As much as Bill and his wife love such stories, where the hand of the Lord provides in powerful ways, he wants to be the guy knocking on the door. Without a theology of blessings, we have no place to accept blessings of which someone wants to bestow.
The Psalmist says,
“Cause Your face to shine on us… bless us…”
What’s he saying in the scripture?
“God, I don’t want the blessings of the Lord in my life to be separate from your manifest presence on me. I want people to acknowledge there’s something different about their life.”
Bill shares how businesses hire Bethel members because they change the atmosphere of the business. They’re not even hiring right now, but they want to hire people from Bethel because there’s something different about them.
It’s important for us as believers to learn how to carry the blessing of the Lord righteously because the revival of the nations is connected to this reality.
Have you ever thought about seeking the blessing of the Lord intentionally or the ramifications of the Lord’s blessings? In what ways has Bill’s message challenged or encouraged you today.
May the Lord richly bless you and cause His face to shine upon you!
